Hindus demand #ArrestLeenaManimekalai after she releases obscene poster of Maa Kaali



The poster for Indian filmmaker Leena Manimekalai's documentary 'Kali,' dubbed an attack on the Hindu religion, has sparked outrage on social media. The release of the poster is said to have insulted Maa Kali. Many netizens have tagged the police and the Union Home Ministry, demanding that those responsible be held accountable. On July 2, 2022, the contentious poster was unveiled (Saturday).

How did the controversy start?

Leena herself shared the poster for it. The contentious poster depicts a woman in the four-armed form of Maa Kali. Tilak is applied to the forehead, and a trident and other weapons are held in the hands. One hand is holding a cigarette, which is attached to the mouth. On the other hand, there is an LGBTQ flag.

Associate Producer and Make-Up Artist Asha Ponnachan, Editing by Shravan, Camera by Fatin Choudhary and Rishabh Kalra, Audiography by Tapas Nayak, and Image Grading by Raja Ranjan contributed to the documentary. The controversial documentary was also made in collaboration with Tamil Art Collective and Queen Summer Institute.

Netizens demand strict action

Netizens emphasised the need for action. Although Leena expressed her excitement for it while sharing it, it sparked controversy as soon as the documentary's poster was released. The Hinduphobic poster shared by Leena Manimekalai is drawing outrage on social media and people are demanding the arrest of Leena Manimekalai for deliberately hurting Hindu religious sentiments and fueling communal unrest.
